Entwistle sponsors Liverpool Unites Great Purple Run
13th March 2009

Following the massive success of last year’s Run for Rhys, Liverpool Unites are delighted to announce that it will be holding the run again this year, called the Liverpool Unites: Great Purple Run 2009, sponsored by the Entwistle Group.
The event will be held in Croxteth Park on Sunday 3rd May 2009 and is open to all, regardless of age or fitness level. Last year’s Run for Rhys saw entrants ranging from under 5’s to over 75’s, including wheelchair users and children in pushchairs, so anybody can enter. Entrants are encouraged to walk, jog or run the 5km (3.1 mile) course, raising as much sponsorship money as possible for Liverpool Unites to help disadvantaged children across Merseyside break the downward cycle of crime and poverty.
We are aiming to make this year’s Great Purple Run even bigger and better than before, and here are just a few reasons:
- The entry fee has reduced to £10 for adults and £5 for under 16’s. The fee can be taken out of the sponsorship money raised, making it absolutely free to take part.
- Everybody who enters by Monday 27th April will have their name printed in the official event programme.
- The theme of the run is purple! The day itself is going to have a real carnival atmosphere with music, stilt walkers, balloon artists, face painters and optional fancy dress running with a prize for the best dressed runner!

- We will have a fantastic competition for entrants to take advantage of: for every £10 in sponsorship money raised, entrants will receive an entry into our competition to win a pair of tickets to an ECHO arena concert of their choice, so raising £100 would give 10 chances of winning!
Anyone wishing to participate can sign up by:
- Visiting www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/greatpurplerun
- Sending a SAE to Liverpool Unites, Liverpool Daily Post and ECHO, PO Box 48, Old Hall Street, Liverpool, L69 3EB.

The event is organised by Inmotion, a company headed by former Commonwealth Games silver medallist John Gladwin. John said “We were honoured to be asked to organise this event on behalf of Liverpool Unites. Liverpool is synonymous with sporting achievement and participation; it is also acclaimed for its great sense of community. Given the great spirit of the people on Merseyside, we are sure everyone will take the opportunity to make this event, and the cause it represents, a massive success”
Liverpool Unites fundraiser Tom Woolley said: “The Run for Rhys 2008 was a brilliant event which saw over 600 people join together to raise a phenomenal amount for Liverpool Unites. This event helped us realise our target of raising £100,000 for the Rhys Jones Memorial Fund, so we’re planning to make the Great Purple Run 2009 even bigger and better than before. We’re aiming to have more than three times as many people take part this year so we want everyone to bring their family and friends for what will be a very special event.”
